Ava DuVernay born August 24, 72 in Long Beach, CA. Her aunt Denise inspired her love of art and creativity. DuVernay developed an interest in the field of broadcast journalism while a student. She began as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was appointed to monitor and investigate the residence of an individual Jury member. Following her disappointment with journalism by the tasks she was handed and deciding to go after a career in publicity. DuVernay began her first position as a publicist at a small production studio right out of high school. The year 1999 was the time she launched her own firm of public relations called The DuVernay Agency.
